Hurricane Irene Response
August 26-29, 2011

North Carolina Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 9, a division of LREMS, was activated by North Carolina Division of Emergency Management on Friday, August 26th, for pre-deployment standby for Hurricane Irene. Members of LREMS and the Fayetteville Fire Department, who also compose Task Force 9, prepared for the approaching storm. On Saturday, August 27th, the team was deployed to New Bern. After the hurricane passed, they were deployed to Pamlico County to assist with search and rescue. The majority of the outer banks received damage, both from wind and flooding. The team stayed deployed until Monday, August 29th, when they returned home. LREMS sent seven members on the deployment, along with USAR vehicles and equipment. LREMS is proud to be a part of North Carolina's response plan to disasters within our state.
