Vehicle into a School

On Sunday May 2, 2010 Rescue 1 was dispatched
to a vehicle rollover on NC 72 East of Lumberton in the Long
Branch community. Rescue 110 and Rescue 112 responded to the
scene. Upon their arrival, a vehicle was overturned in a
large ditch. The driver of the vehicle was pinned-in. Using
airbags and hydraulic tools, the seriously injured driver
was freed from the vehicle within twenty minutes. Robeson
County EMS initiated treatment on scene. UNC Aircare had
been requested at the initial dispatch, and flew to the
scene. The patient was transported to the landing zone next
to Long Branch Baptist Church, and was transferred from the
medic unit to the helicopter. The driver was then flown to
UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. There were no other occupants
in the vehicle. Rescue 1 was assisted by Station 3 (Britt's
FD), Robeson County EMS, the Robeson County Sheriff's Office
and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
