| Lumberton Rescue and EMS has thirty-three volunteers.
The organization is split up into three divisions: rescue,
EMS and urban search and rescue (USAR). We currently have
thirty part-time employees assigned to the EMS division, who
operate the two advanced life support ambulances. Our junior
program consists of 8 junior rescue members, ranging from
ages 16 to 18. We offer rescue services, which range from
motor vehicle collisions to high level rescues. Our EMS
division provides advanced paramedic care. The USAR team
provides specialized rescue techniques, such as structural
collapse and confined space, to the State of North Carolina
through the office of Emergency Management. In 2009, we
answered 2,127 calls for service. We cover nearly 240
square miles of Robeson County, including the City of
Lumberton. We operate two ambulances, a search and rescue
command vehicle, a medium duty rescue truck and a heavy
rescue truck for major traffic accidents and disasters.
Lumberton Rescue & EMS also operates a 16' McKee Craft
fiberglass boat and three smaller aluminum boats. These
watercraft are used for boating accidents, drownings and
searches in and around water.
Lumberton Rescue and EMS's operates out of a 8,925 square
foot building that has living quarters, a large kitchen and
dining area, and a large training area. The only rescue owned
helipad is operated at our facility. It is frequently used
to transport seriously ill patients from Southeastern
Regional Medical Center to Duke University Medical Center
and East Carolina Medical Center. Duke LifeFlight, EastCare,
AirCare, USMC Medical Attachment, US Army Medevac and the US
Army Reserves have all used the helipad.
Lumberton Rescue and EMS does provide public
demonstrations of rescue equipment and techniques and tours
of our facilities for civic groups upon request. To schedule
a tour or demonstration, please
